Geraldine O’Kelly Cooney – Tutor
(MSc Psychotherapy., BA., Cert. ATAL, Dip. RELSA, MIAHIP, MEAP) is currently practising as a fully accredited clinical psychotherapist and counsellor in private practice in a centre for affordable counselling.
She works with adults of all ages, having particular experienceworking with those for whom English is a second language, and people of various ethnic and cultural origins. Her main focus is creatinga therapeutic environment where each person feels accepted, and free to be themselves.
Geraldine’s BAin psychology has been at the core of her life’s varied work experience in motivation analysis, market research, business mentoring, applied psychology in life skills, couples relationship facilitation and counselling, Enterprise training and support, teaching, adult literacy, language training. Since deciding to qualify as a psychotherapist in recent years, Geraldine is passionate about the work of psychotherapy which feels like a natural progression in her work-life development.
Geraldine has lived and worked in Ireland, Europe, UK, and USA and has a working knowledge of French, German, Italian, Spanish. Her diverse background experience informs her professional work. Her specialisms include cultural integration, relocation, business/work related stress, managing long-term illness, Recovery from stroke, parenting, ageing, life stages, couples’relationship counselling, anxiety, depression, grief, bereavement.
Her research interest is in cultural diversity and managing relocation/migration, and her thesis wastitled “Psychotherapists’ Experience of Cultural Diversity within Psychotherapy Practice in Ireland.”
